Appreciation

I really would love to buy a fancy leather coat! But those luxury coats are so extremely expensive…

Of course I understand that: Leather with a good quality has a certain price… And besides: the life of animals should have a certain value. When you’re buying meat in the supermarket and you’re just paying like a few pounds, then you realise that something is wrong with our society. We should appreciate the animal that had to die for us – and be it just with paying an appropriate price.

So to come back to those leather coats: I understand absolutely why they cost so much. Even more, knowing you need quite a few hides to sew a coat… So now it’s either abdicate – or save money.

she liked to fork herself

I don’t know if you are familiar with Korean model Daul Kim. She was an amazingly beautiful girl who had an affinity to forks, so much so that she collected them and named her blog after her obsession: I like to fork myself. If you know that she hung herself at the age of 20 in 2010 though her posts of poetry, art, random things and some notions of her suffering from loneliness makes you think about the title in a different way.

When reading her posts with the fact in mind that she isn’t alive anymore I got such a depressing and sorry feeling. It’s just really too sad, as 20 is just not an age to end your life. Yet who am I to judge her decision or to say to keep on living even though you might feel it’s unbearable?

Vive la France

I went to begin my treasure hunt I told you about before in Paris. And I failed! I was stuck in amazing Bon Marché (I love it!) all day and eventually got a very beautiful black silk shirt from Alexander Wang. After that, we went out to eat and drink and of course talk. Today we went to see a very nice exhibition about the art and time of Japanese Samurai and after that we headed on to Dijon to visit my friend’s family.

During the next week we’ll be going to Lyon though. I might be lucky there, that is to say if I’m in the mood…!

Anyway, I very much love the seemingly innate flair all French people seem to have and it suddenly gave me the urge to go see a hairdresser sooner as planned and buy new facial products. Even my friend’s grandma (who by the way makes the best Tarte à la framboise I ever tasted) has such a lovely manner and, yes as well in her sweat pants, flair.

THESE BOOTS ARE MADE FOR WALKIN’

This season’s trend are definitely boots for women. It’s the number one item to have it seems and not only is it a look back into the 90’s which I like quite a lot, it’s also such a comfy trend! I do have three pairs myself and actually, I don’t want to get out of my warm boots anymore.

It’s actually a trend worth joining since it’s relaxing for the foot to walk in, it’s warm and it looks pretty cool and chilled out in a way. With thick and warm socks the winter look is completed and even in tights or leggings you wont ever have to fear the cold. I tried it and it’s nearly impossible to freeze if your feet are bedded in warm fur. So, my recommendation for autumn, winter and spring: boots!

OVERSIZE VS. OVERSIZED

I started working in retail when I was still in school. Nothing really changed up to now, only that I had to change the shop I worked for to H&M to match my not-as-flexible-as-I-thought schedule from university and the revelation that working in retail can be quite a funny job that makes you laugh and think about those weird little creatures called women.

One of the most odd questions I encounter these days is “do you have this in extra small?”, coming from a women who usually wears a medium or large, pointing at the oversized cardigan that obviously has a reason for being loose and, yes, big.

So, what’s the big deal with sizes really? It’s not like anybody would say “she looks tiny to me now that I know she’s wearing an extra small!” Not that anybody would even bother pulling down your pants to see the size written in it.

Anyway, I found a really nice cardigan from Hugo Boss in the xxl clothing section for men and the salesgirl said whilst looking at me saying how beautifully it looks on me that I could just snip off the tag with the size on it. Yeah right…
