Summer saviour

Posted on by

silk scarfA few days ago I was looking for a nice ladies silk scarf; I think I already told you that I find the trend-colours of this summer a little boring and little diversified… Don’t get me wrong: those colours (like Apricot and Cream) per se are very nice; but if there’s just blouses, skirts and pants in these two tones, then it gets a little dull, don’t you agree?

Well, that’s why I was very glad to see that when it comes to scarves, theses rules don’t seem to apply: they had the most varied designs, different colours, floral patterns, whatever your heart desires. …But thinking about it, this is the only logical thing they can do – after all this summer there is just those accessories to spice up your unspectacular outfit… ;-)

New beginning

The year 2013 has arrived and I hope you all had a great party with your beloved ones. I am really excited what the new year will bring us – in general and of course in terms of fashion and style. I personally deeply hope that in this new year some fashiontrends will pass from us – like skinny fit jeans.

I can’t explain why but I just don’t like them. But on us girls they look at least, let’s say, okay. But boys with those skinny jeans look just awful. The truth is I could never bear a boyfriend who wears this kind of trousers. Because I immediately start thinking about these Britpop-guys, who all look like as if they would smell really bad… So thanks, no skinny jeans for me – nor my boyfriend.

skirts skirts skirts

As summer has already visited us or a short while but then suddenly decided again to hide its sunny face, I’m getting all hyped up on wearing my denim skirts until I can again wear my airy summer skirts. You gotta make the best out if everything, eh!

Well seriously, I love skirts, so of course I like the kind out of denim as well! I count three in my possession. One that goes down to the floor, that is really nice and airy in the summer heat, one that just shortly ends underneath my bum and another one that is about 10cm longer and therefore is great for everyday use. My favourite colours or better my favourite items to combine it to are at the moment mustard yellow leggings or tights! They allow you not too look too playful without making the outfit too sporty or too boyish. My pick for the day: mustard yellow!!

Warpaint

Today I’d like to share one of my favourite bands with you. I only discovered them a week ago and fell in love straight away. What I’m listening to all day everyday is a band called Warpaint.

Warpaint is a 4 member, all-girl indie band formed in 2004 in Los Angeles. After changing the constellation of the band members a bit they released their debut album “The Fool” in October 2010 with the well-established and well-known record label Rough Trade. Rough Trade and Warp are actually my favourite record labels. They feature nearly all of my favourite musicians. London based Rough Trade Records e.g. features The Libertines and The Strokes.

Warpaint got me with their song B.I.L.L.Y. H.O.L.L.I.D.A.Y. I recommend you to listen to it as well!

shoe addiction

I really like buying shoes! Well, I might like shopping in general after all event hough I didn’t like it that much… Well, I might not really the actual act of shopping itself but the feeling of being over the moon when unwrapping your achievements (rather prey than anything) of the day.

Some cosmetics here, some accessories there are really nice to buy but shoes are somewhat special. Shoes are even more fun to unwrap and even more fun to buy! You don’t have to undress and change as much as you would have to do when buying clothes and the effect of having nice, comfortable, high quality shoes is always astonishing. The shoes women wear really make the outfit no matter what simple clothes they are combined to.

going beyond

What I really recommend every single of you fashion lovers and fashion interested out there is to not only check your national fashion magazines. I bet you already do that on a regular basis anyway ;)

But apart from that I would recommend having a look at the outside world as well. Try to get a hold of international and foreign magazines once in a while for a change. It really helps me a lot to get an idea about fads and fashions in this century, this age, this season. It doesn’t really matter if you understand a word or not. It’s all about the feeling of how fashion is perceived differently around the world and how it is yet so similar at the same time. Check out for example the Italian or French Vogue. I personally recommend the Japanese version :)

winter skirts – summer skirts

Posted on by

I really like fashion and I really enjoy dressing up and wearing skirts, dresses and simply girly, nice clothes. Yet I noticed that I mostly do that in winter. I usually don’t wear summer skirts even though it would make much more sense to wear skirts during summer rather than during fall and winter. I can’t even say that the reason is that I don’t like my legs. Well, maybe to some extent but when temperatures are rising, usually I wouldn’t care anymore, as everybody else wouldn’t care either. But still, when summer arrives I’m all pants – and I don’t mean shorts, I really mean pants. I suppose I might simply feel a bit too naked when wearing a skirt in summer, as you wouldn’t really put on some tights. One breeze of air and I’m afraid of being Marilyn Monroe for a second…

what’s “in” this season – the trend of trench

Posted on by

As in every spring (or autumn) the trench coat seems to be one of the must haves again. So it’s no surprise to find it hitting the stores now. Actually, a trench coat is something you should have for a long time. It’s a timeless garment that will definitely suit any silhouette, that will match every kind of wardrobe or style and that will go well with nearly any outfit. Even the price range is really wide; it goes from the very cheap to the most high end prices. There should be a trench for every budget and there should be a trench in every wardrobe :) I even saw a very beautiful trench-inspired little something that had see-through beige chiffon sleeves, yet the style and fabric of a short trench coat by Miu Miu today.

watching watches

Posted on by

I just saw a very nice watch hanging round the wrist of my colleague. With my smartphone on hand, I went on a little search through the web to find out the price and where to get it.

It’s called “Black Rebel” and you can find it in the “New Gents” collection by Swatch. It is slightly bigger than your usual women sized watch, completely black (also the display and clock-hands) and has a simple yet beautiful design. I never would have imagined that those sorts of bigger watches would ever catch my eye since I assumed a special type of human being wearing sport watches. This one is really nice though and blew all my prejudices of sport watches away. You can even get it in nearly any colour possible, making it actually difficult to decide on the nicest of them. The price is with £44.50 moderate as well.

Back to the 90’s

Posted on by

“No matter how ugly, a trend will always make it back some day.”  That’s what my lovely French friend Sophie said yesterday. And there we were, sitting with lots of good wine and bread (I know, too much cliché but, yes, we had delicious cheese as well) discussing and laughing about all those fashion mistakes we made during our teens.

Still having tears in our eyes from too much laughing we noticed that we actually have yet again more of the 90’s in our wardrobes than we had guessed at first. Even though I noticed the boots in my post yesterday there’s still more: glitzy shirts, black and white printed dresses and lots of black in general. We are not yet at the stage of wearing neon colours since we didn’t in the first place but you never know what miracles the next shopping tour might actually hold for us.
