Caulking for beginners

Posted on by

Today I did something which was long overdue: I caulked my windows! Because you have to know the windows in my apartment are really old. In summer you don’t realise it so much – but in winter you do. Sitting next to the closed window I always felt if it were wide open. Because the wind was coming in as if there weren’t glasses!

So finally I went to the building centre and bought stuff to caulk windows. Well, first I used to much, so that I couldn’t close the windows any more (which isn’t helping too much against the cold… ;-) ), but finally it worked. So now I can sit in my flat next to my windows without putting on a scarf and gloves. And of course I’m saving lots of heating costs, which is probably even more important.

Dirty business

Just recently I heard one of the funniest things in a long time: Somebody told me about triumph business underwear. Well, very often you hear things and don’t think about it. But this time I really started thinking and finally wondered: What the hell is business underwear supposed to mean??

When you’re working normally no one has to be interested in your underwear, right? And what in heaven’s name is the difference between normal underwear and business underwear in the first place? Even more as those pieces on the website are all very, very sexy. More like provocative lingerie. Haha, maybe it’s meant for sleeping your way to the top. Honestly I can’t find another explanation. So that really must be the main intention.

Letting it out

The last times I went shopping I had to be careful not to spend too much money, because I had a few necessary and very expensive purchases the last months (like a new refrigerator for example).

But after this lean time I’m looking forward to buy a few nice designer clothes, maybe from HUGO BOSS (here you get more information) or some similar label.

Well, on the other hand: maybe I shouldn’t directly start with so expensive and luxurious brands. I could first go to some designer outlet and see what they have there. Yes, this is a good idea. So primarily outlet-shopping – and then, when my financial situation has fully recovered, I’m going to reward myself with a pretty expensive designer’s dress. And then my lean time begins anew… ;-)

Wonderful seasons

I really love all the sasons. There’s not a single one I despise (like so many others, that say for example things like “I hate winter!“). I like the beautiful awakening of the nature in spring, the hot summer days which allow you to go swimming and sit outside the whole night, fall with all of it’s wondeful colours and the fresh air, and the white winter world, combined with my favourite holiday: christmas.

But there is one specific thing about winter I don’t like: Going somewhere warm and then having to get rid of all your jackets, gloves and scarves. And then storing them somewhere. Your only other choice is to drag your stuff around all the time… This really is one thing I prefer about summer, when you wear a shirt and trousers – and that’s all. No storing, no problem.

It’s getting serious

I’m really glad always having worked in offices and agencies where we could wear what we wanted to. There was no dresscode, we had no business-clothes or even uniforms. We did our work and as long as we did it well nobody cared how we looked.

But now lots of my colleagues changed their job due to some strange firmpolicy-decisions – and suddenly realise that for other jobs they do need real business wear. That’s why a good friend of mine (and ex-colleague) went shopping last week to buy a blazer and some more serious-looking clothes. I’m also thinking of quitting – but oh my god, then I also will have to start looking serious at work. Seems like a nightmare at the moment; but you get used to everything, don’t you?

Window to the soul

They always say the look of an appartment reflects the soul of it’s owner. I think there is some true point in this. For example if someone’s place is very messy, I think his mind is also a little messy. Means he has some sort of (creative?) chaos in his soul. Or if someone is very donnish, almost anal, his or her place will also be very tidy, I assume.

Well, if someone sees my flat he must think I’m very impractical. Just look at my couch: it’s quite stylish with a tartan pattern. But it’s huge – way too huge for my small flat. It blocks nearly half of my living room – storing place I would really need for other things… Well, maybe someday I’ll manage my couch – and thus my soul… ;-)

Wonderful wheels

When I travelled I always used to go with my old carpetbag. It’s very simple, black and not all to big. But it’s sufficient for one or two weeks of vacancy. The only thing that always bothered me is to carry it around. After a few minutes it gets soooo heavy and your shoulders start to hurt like hell…

So when I went the last time to spain I borrowed a really good suitcase – with wheels. In other words: just a normal trolley case. And I was enthusiastic. How could I ever have travelled with another type of luggage? It’s so comfortable not having to carry your stuff around on your shoulders. Even the biggest suitcase is easy to pull if it has wheels. So my next investment will be a good wheelie suitcase.

Long – short – stupid

Isn’t it funny that we humans always try to make our lifes more complicated? We all have our problems – and if there comes a day we don’t have them, we make ourselves new ones. Lots of our so called „first world problems“ are absolutely ridiculous – but since we don’t have others, real ones, we make those our biggest concern…

This even applies in absolut unimportant parts of our lifes – or, like in this case, in our language: For example we always called tshirts „tshirts“. To differ them from shirts with long arms, we call those „long sleeve shirts“. But recently I read the word „short sleeve shirts“ – to differ those from the ones with long arms. Is this stupid and unnecessarily comlicated, or what? We already have a word for those: It’s called tshirt. Just tshirt!

Everything for my darling

How do you think about new born baby clothes from famous fashionbrands? Of course they look cute – but don’t look all the babyclothes cute? And in my opinion buying so expensive high-class babyfashion is just a waste of money.

Especially when it’s fashion for new borns. You know how fast they grow. You can imagine that you have to buy a complete new set of babyclothes every few months – maybe even weeks! So I would never buy so expensive clothes for children or babys. Even more if you consider that the little ones don’t even realise what they are wearing and cannot „appreciate“ it. But of course: those who don’t have to worry about money at all – go for it! It’s just that I think I will buy really expensive clothes for my kids not until they realise it.

Doggy style

What do you think about fashion for dogs? I remember the first time I saw it, I was quite frankly shocked. For different reasons: What are those awful dog-owners doing to those poor animals? How can they not see that it looks absolutely ridiculous? And how can they be so stupid to waste money for something like this?

Well, at least the last point is not really a valid question: when people like something, money doesn’t matter. And with time I got used to the sight of dogs with clothes. A friend of mine even told me once that there are lots of dogs that are really freezing in winter. So those dog-clothes are not just for the looks – but also for warming the animals.

Well, having all that in mind: The owners shall do what they want. The are worse things in our world…
